These are really great pictures. Spectacular night photography. They remind me of the short trains led by SW1500s that I would chase on my bike and model on my HO layout.

Regarding the comment about entering the San Rafael city limits, I don't want to appear pedantic but the train entered San Rafael city limits when it got to McInnes Park just north of Smith Ranch Road. Also - fun fact - Los Ranchitos is a small unincorporated area surrounded on all sides by the City of San Rafael. And although the tracks get close to Los Ranchitos, the entirety of the right of way in within the City of San Rafael.
