Just more signs of what appears to be an increasingly common US business tactic: cut back & re-trench to face competition, instead of growing & serving customers better.
1) Slashing store inventories will help them compete against Home Depot??
2) If OSH is/was such a small part of the organization, why absorb them at all (other than to eliminate a competitor which actually did serve customers)?

If only Amtrak would try to deal with their deficits by trying to EXPAND service & thereby EXPAND REVENUES, rather that slashing costs by slashing service ...
