As usual, Idiot politicians, whom we wish were actually well meaning, have again overshot the mark. With just a little more intelligence added to this PTC equation, someone might have noticed that PTC, a system intended to prevent two or more trains from colliding, is not actually needed where there is only one train on the line.
Who the hell is it going to run into anyway. Especially where ABS is in place monitoring switch positions on the main; which already has been a federal ABS requirement at least 70 years now. Doubly so where ATS is still functioning. Last I heard the Raton Line still had it.
Of course, having overshot the mark with unintelligent rigid legislation that technologically favored only certain PTS vendors, the passenger train may not be running. Meaning that most of those passengers will be driving, and having fatal accidents at a much higher rate than if they had just been allowed to stay on the train, as is. I guess that is what Diane Fienstein and Barbara Boxer cool-aid really tastes like - ENJOY.
