In one point of the waiver request, it says that the couplers will couple all lines automatically, and uncoupling will be controlled from the cab (something which was "wow, cool" some 45 years ago).

Conventional knuckle couplers are useless in this situation.

Since non-standard couplers have been in use, there were adapters. So, if a rescue is needed (rather rarely; it would mean that power is out and/or catenary dragged down), such an adapter will be available.

BTW, the couplers are most likely NOT Scharffenberg, but of a related type.
