What prevents modern locomotivesl from overheating in long tunnels?
None of these modern locomtives are tunnel motors. And the former SP lines do have a lot of tunnels, including the 2-mile-long Tunnel 41, "the Big Hole," on Donner, as well as many other places. Modern trains are very long, sometimes 2 miles long, and few tunnels are level. So -- what prevents these modern locomotives, none of which are tunnel motors, from overheating and automatically shutting down, in long tunnels?
Thaks in advance for any info anyone can give me!
