...what I saw last weekend in the SJV. Most UP trains were long, mixed, slow, and only had power on the front (instead of the usual rear dpu helping) except on a stack train. Lots of them were stopped waiting for track work, too. Even BNSF seems to be in on the party east of Mojave - no dpus even on stack trains - though BNSF dpus were in evidence on Tehachapi itself. Granted, the line between Mojave and Barstow doesn't have much in the way of grades...

Also noted a lot of TOFC especially on UP along 99. Typically from one of the big truck lines. Haven't seen that much TOFC in a long time...some trains were majority with only a few containers. Guess the big lines are having a hard time finding drivers for the long hauls?
