A 6 ft+ deep 'beam' is actually a plate girder, welded up from plates.
I still hope to see what cracked.
And BTW steel fans, back after the quake in LA many failed moment frame steel connections were found to be cracked. The cause was determined to be a combination of steel specification/properties and high welding temperatures. The steel property problem was tackled by US engineers in consultation with Korean steel makers- that's where steel came from back then. Time flies
