We checked out the former GN depot in Whitefish a few days ago on our recent trip to Glacier National Park.
The structure is impressive. It has three tenants: Amtrak, various car rental agencies, and a Whitefish historical museum. The waiting area is spacious and clean.
Outside is a diesel switcher painted in a GN scheme, the "Bruck" (a specially designed bus used by GN to ferry passengers between Whitefish and Kalispell), and a BNSF business car train parked on a siding near the depot.
I had seen that business car train pass through West Glacier eastbound earlier in the week.
We also saw the former GN depot in Kalispell. I wonder why GN bypassed Kalispell around 1904. I read that GN moved its mainline back then. [Yes, there is still a branch into Kalispell.]
