Authorities are working a train derailment near Keenesburg.
Three engines and 123 cars derailed about 5:45 p.m. near Weld County roads 398 and 63, about 3 miles northeast of Keenesburg. It's unclear at this point exactly how the train derailed, but it was either in an attempt to avoid or a result of crashing with a semi, said Trooper Gary Cutler, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol. The driver of the semi was uninjured.
The train is operated by BNSF Railway. Although the derailment was listed as a crash as of Thursday night in the Colorado State Patrol's system, Cutler said the investigation would likely be picked up by the National Transportation Safety Board.
No other details were available late Thursday night.
