Interpreting the statement in the best possible light: Sometimes an emergency application can cause a derailment. Slapping it into emergency to try not to crash with a semi, and derailing as a result, would in fact be derailing from trying to avoid the truck.

Note well: I have no evidence that it actually happened that way.
