Roadrailers seem to be a dead issue. I recall NS discontinued their last Roadrailer route earlier this year ???
Although the Roadrailer did eliminate the weight of a flatcar or spine car, they did add dead weight to the trailer itself in the form of extra reinforcements to handle the stress of running ON the rails. The attachment tongue was an additional dead weight too, always a bad deal in the highway mode. Assembling a Roadrailer train also took longer than lifting standard truck trailers onto intermodal equipment.
I too wonder if EwePee has considered a new version of the old Espee Pacific Coast Express pig train. The demise of the Pacific NorthWest paper industry ( PCX's biggest commodity ) would have to enter into any planning.
