SP #18 (narrow gauge 4-6-0) leased to Durango & Silverton for "training"

I have not seen any "official" announcement, but Randy Babcock of the D&SNG RR has confirmed that the D&SNG RR will be leasing the SP #18 from the folks at Lone Pine, Laws and Inyo County CA. The 'oil-fired' #18 will mostly be used to train engine and shop crews on an oil-fired locomotive, in preparation for D&S finishing the rebuild of one of their [originally] coal fired locomotive into an oil fired locomotive. There will be an opportunity to ride some trains behind #18 at D&S.

This is partly driven by the perceived lesser forest fire potential with an oil-fired locomotive.
