I ask this question of a PLA menber years ago who I believe was Mr. Luna. He said that repairing 2467 was not the issue; it was just not cost effective. He stated that it took more fuel to fire up the 2467 then either of the 2-6-2T’s would use in a day. (It might have been a whole weekend but this was a long time ago and maybe the first year 2467 was at CSRM.)
There was also the issue of lack of turing facilities at both ends and something about the rear truck not having automitic centering.
As someone who is intamentaly experienced with the business side of a steam railroad, the cost issue makes complete sense to me. We should all be greatful that 2467 has a good place to remain out of the elements instead of being stuffed in the back of the yard like the SP 0-6-0.
