Diverted the money, huh? That's a complete line of pure unadulterated horse$hit for which you have not one shred of evidence. This is, in fact, one of the few areas where the funding is directed into the transportation accounts by constitutional requirements. Complete crap, sourced from the usual orifice, or repeated like the conspiracies from nutjobs, or the radio talk show "experts".... venting their manly righteousness and anger over these evil "crooked" politicians (that we actually elect under our system of governments....???), that are stealing money in the night....like a third world dictatorship...…
The fact is that we haven't raised the gas tax in nearly 25 years, none of it was diverted, our roads are crappier than even, because the last time we raised it in the early 90's was for less than the rate of inflation since the last fax increase in the 60's, and this "evil" gas tax voted on by a two thirds vote of legislature is less than half of the rate of inflation, will actually catch up on some of the repairs and upgrades, and a few transit projects.
Politicians suck, they do stupid things, they pander to fools, who want something for nothing, and every twenty five years or so we get all of our knickers in a twist because we have to raise the frickin gas tax a dime, and all hell breaks lose....
Tinfoil hats can't keep the conspiracy theories out.....evil is about the land, evil trains will run...our freedom will be lost.....the end times are here, if we have to pay a dime more a gallon for gas....to pay for the frickin roads we use....
This is the what it's really all about..... It's an opportunity for folks to whine, because we're so fricking spoiled that we can't have a free lunch and actually have to pay something, once in a while.
