You're kind of behind the 8-Ball on this one.

If you've ever been involved with a construction project bigger than playing a Sims game, you know that change orders, claims, and lawsuits happen. Nearly every time. Nobody did anything wrong - the court is being asked to rule on which those 1000's of claims are valid and how much shall be paid.

For that matter: do you have liability insurance on your room in Mom's basement? You should. If somebody trips over the mouse cord they could sue you, your Mom, and anybody else they think might have money and be plausibly connected to the occurrence. Insurance exists to protect you from such issues, as long as you've done something to protect yourself (put a rug over that mouse extension)? Big organizations sometimes use a large deductible (otherwise known as self-insurance) to keep the commercial insurance cost (for catastrophic claims) to a minimum, but that means they get to defend more claims themselves. It's their life. Get a life.
