BNSF has a Quiet Zone in North Tacoma ( Old Town -- formerly McCarver St. station ) that has been the location of a well - covered pedestrian fatality. Seems an impatient jogger who had waited for one train to pass, started across the tracks while the gates were still down and red lights flashing, only to be hit by a second train on the other track.
I don't remember if the second train had the horn & bell operating, but I do recall local news media has bought in to the Tales of Woe (i.e. - negligence by BNSF ) from the dead jogger's relatives & friends. BNSF has had to install additional gates, lights, and fencing over this Thinning of the Gene Pool.
