They're taking about 2,400 passengers on the average weekday
on 34 trains. About 500 or so on the average weekend day on 10 trains.
One analyst did the math: us taxpayers are paying about $26 per
rider in operating costs not covered by fares. The subsidy including
interest on the bond is far larger.
Passengers on all transit systems are subsidized with tax dollars
or tolls, but this train has one of the largest per passenger
subsidies in the country.
