Bakersfield-Barstow gets a little dicey too. Kramer Junction can back things up (nearly all trucks) for 3 miles or more of stop n go (mostly stop). Then the BNSF grade crossing between Boron and Kramer gets into the act with, at times, trains every 15-20 minutes.
No, I think Victor Valley (lots of ex-LA warehousing) and Vegas are the targets. BNSF already serves (has intermodal at) Bakersfield or Fresno, and San Bernardino. Trucking over Cajon is a pain. Obviously, BNSF does not serve Vegas, so LV traffic has to either go UP or land on a truck. This lets BNSF get at least some traffic from the game.
