Did the crew get a full day's pay?

Let's assume the train and engine crew just went on duty.

Upon pulling away from the Monterey depot, the locomotive promptly went on the ground.

Did the crew remain on duty and get paid while the train was being re-railed?

Or were they ordered by the Trainmaster to go off duty and wait to be called back?

Year was 1955. Source: The Monterey Herald.
