Without knowing the cause all this speculation is relative but with regard to the above comments---1) What is the current speed limit? I know from personal experience it's wasn't very high when I was with SP. 2) 2,500' train length restriction is a non-starter with UP cost-wise. 3) 4 trains per day max is also not going to fly. I would be willing to bet in the original agreement BNSF (AT&SF) doesn't have the right to any of these conditions and UP is absolutely not going to go with them either. How many other derailments have occurred on the diamond?
