It appears that there's quite a bit of historic rail preservation behind the former Iron Curtain. I've visited the railway museum in Budapest, which has two turntables, a 30-something stall roundhouse, shop, 50-odd steam locomotives (about a dozen operable), plus lots of diesels, electrics, cars, etc. The appeal of trains is truly universal.
