This was obviously a scare tactic. Apparently, the local residents like the Beach Train and would be upset if it went away, or it was used as means of personifying the horrible prospect of "60 trains a day" and the nightmare it would cause.

In any event, it only infers that the Beach Train might go away if rail transit came to pass, NOT that it IS. Furthermore, there is no suggestion that Roaring Camp (which is miles away and has other things going on besides the Beach Train) is closing. I don't know if "News At Noon" really meant this as an attempt at rabble-rousing, but it certainly affirms the old saying that "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing."
