Page 12 of this months Trains (actually in the Matt Rose article) pretty much sums up Rail performance, of UP and of the RR they are, for whatever strange reasoning, seeking the emulate, or at least at least calling on the dead spirits of its departed leader, in adopting "so-called" "precision" railroading, to goose the stock.
The problem, is that some of this "bullishness" is probably coming more from the flurry of press releases, about UP's latest version of a theory on how to run a RR, that might be giving so much "lift" from this "bullish" rhetoric, being that so much of it would appear to be composed of hot air.
I note from the chart in Trains, that there are only two roads, one with only average revenue growth and one with way-way below average ("dead last") reverse growth, that have also managed to loose traffic volumes, UP and CSX. Reading the other article in Trains on UP's adoption of the CSX's "miracle cure all" ("light on details" is the analyst's quote in Trains) still left me wondering "how" this will work any better for stockholders, and this sounds like it could be extremely problematic for some shippers, and some commodities.
As Sprouts wisely advises, buy low, sell high.
