Don't wanna get into another mis-informed thread, but the "railroad trestle on it's side" is actually the top of a railroad bridge, over a portion of the old Sacremento River that intersected it at an angle. The bridge was built that way because of the angles of the banks on both sides of the bridge, and also the lack of a short causeway leading up to it.
