I don't own a car. If it were up to me I would put a "freeze" on freeway construction.
The real friends of Exxon and the Reason Foundation are those who insist on a system which cannot connect directly to San Francisco. They do not want their enclave more accessible to a lesser demographic. Of course the ultimate power player in this game is the GG Bridge, which wants that excess capacity reserved for automobiles. Just like the Bay Bridge with the Key System.
Grade crossings are dangerous and getting more so each day as traffic congestion worsens. Electric railcars are better at coping with operating at grade because they can brake faster than diesels and the public is more aware of their presence due to the catenary and the much higher frequency of service. Doodlebugs are way too stealth for their own good.
