By personal experience: about 4 or 5 years ago I was at a siding East or Roosevelt WA in the Columbia River Gorge and was tackside when a loaded coal train went West. I estimate it to be doing about 45 to 50 MPH into a 40 Knot wind from the West. The sum of the wind over the loads was 90 MPH or so. There was no detectable grit or dust coming off of the loads which is good for many reasons including the fact that I wear contact lenses. Jeff
