The 1938 Flood in SoCal was a weather event that brought many changes. The Los Angeles River bed was lined with concrete for most of its' length; the Sepulveda Dam flood control project; Prado Dam on the Santa Ana River in S.W. Riverside County to protect Orange County ( much of Anaheim, Buena Park, & Santa Ana had flooded ); and a realignment of Santa Fe's line through Cajon Pass, between Cajon Siding and Cozy Dell / Blue Cut. I recall the 1938 flood also washed out the Tonapah & Tidewater and U. P.'s line through Afton Canyon.
