Just FWIW, Bern RBS is a four track terminal station fed by a simple double-tracked tunnel. At peak, they return 20 trains per hour (on three lines), where four of them use two slots because they have intermediate stops between Bern RBS and Worblaufen, where the three lines split. Without these stops, the capacity would be 24 tph… OK, all trains are EMUs.
Just to confirm the above mentioned quote.
Another example is tracks 3 and 4 in München Ostbahnhof, where 2 S-Bahn lines change direction. And both lines operate at 20 minute intervals, which means that each track is used by 6 trains per hour.
