The article mentions that RTD is the first in the nation to use the “new system” for its crossing gates. What is this system and how is it different from what freight railroads are using? Further more why use a different system at all? Crossing gate systems that do what RTD wants, that work with electrified operations have existed for decades. Why did RTD opt to use something new and unproven when they could have gone with existing off the shelf equipment?
