Go really off the rails as it were and dust up some of the un-used routes plotted by the Canadian Pacific Survey. A personal favorite was Route No. 4, the iteration where the line diverged from the Yellowhead Pass route near Clearwater, went to Williams Lake, and thence up into the Chilcotin and down along the cliffs of Bute Inlet to the salt-chuck.

There, a bridge was to be built over the Johnstone Strait narrows over to Vancouver Island and down the east side of the island to a terminus at the deep water harbours in Victoria and Esquimalt.
