Asked on TO. Here is the answer:
I was visiting CA in September 20, 2017 and came across the Pony Express by accident. I was exploring the Napa Valley/Fairfield area, spotted a station and stopped to photograph it. The station was in Schellville, CA., belonging to the Califoria Northern Railroad shortline. Down the track I saw a compound with a locomotive with a SP inspired paint scheme. Although surrounded in chain link and barbwire, it was a nice discovery for this eastern Canadian. From the compound I could see some cars in storage so I drove down the road along the spur and there was the Pony Express along with other pieces of rolling stock and power. Unfortunately there was no one to ask questions about the railway, operations or the stored equipment.
This is not to say that the Pony Express is still there today.
