The last MS/ SM train was the last week of December 1991. I had to check my time books. The first week of Jan 1992, MRL started running a Sandpoint Local from Missoula to continue handling the phhosphate traffic that set out Sandpoint for UP to handle north on the old SI to CP and Trail, BC. That local and traffic lasted another 4-5 months.
And back in the 1991-1992 time frame they used only the two letter station codes for that train. It wasn't until the BNSF merger that they started using the 6-letter train symbols. And they have rarely run an M MISSPO, etc., usually make up overflow traffic. As already mentioned, the PASLAU and SPOLAU will have cut-off-the-rear traffic for Missoula. Westward the LAUSPO and LAUPAS can make pickups for points west.
