On September 18th, 2018, Norfolk Southern announced that they would be coming out with new locomotives known as SD70ACCs. They would be rebuilds of SD70 standard cabs, and would include DC to AC conversion, new safety cabs, and other significant upgrades. The first two SD70ACCs, #1800 and #1801, would be painted in a unique yellow scheme that represented Progress Rail's parent company, Caterpillar. Progress Rail has rebuilt many of Norfolk Southern's old units, including #1800 and #1801. They also own a large roster of old locomotives, many of which they lease to Norfolk Southern.
