Skip the commercials, it's not troll bait. It's actually an interesting story.
The great "Ayn Randian" (Atlas really "shrugged", because it's such utter nonsense....)myth, that inherently natural and/or uniquely optimal geographic monopolies, can always be "fixed" through more "competition", and by "privatization".
These folks, true to their delusory ideological postulate, believe that privatizing natural monopolies, and allowing for higher monopoly pricing will give a higher ROI for the private investors, believe that this somehow will "magically" fix everything (well, in the short term, maybe for the owners, at least), in cases when real competition (consumer sovereignty???) does not, and more often (in a monopoly and/or near monopoly market????) cannot, really exist.
There are good models for public private partnerships, and for competitive contracting of public services. But, this has been an utter fiasco, on the scale of the incompetence and mismanagement of our own CAHSRA fiasco, based on similar "faith based" "analysis" and ideological delusions.
