George you can easily walk from the west end of Tunnel 6 the summit tunnel on #1 track all the way out to Eider. In the summer there are many people doing this. In the fall I have seen classes from Truckee public schools taking this historic tour. You used to be able to drive but UP has put up a very sturdy gate at the west end of Tunnel 6. In the 70's I can remember times sitting in the office with operator Shorty Teel and he would look over at me and say, "How do you want me to send Atk #5"? My answer was always the same, "Send'em #1". Those were certainly fun times. I spent a lot of time in the Norden station and got to know almost all the operators. Rubbing elbows with railroaders in the cook house was also fun. Norden was a very unique place to say the least, no other place like it. Plus many trains picking up orders there as well. Tons of great memories of Norden. This past summer UP finally demolished the old cook house and depot both of which had been highly vandalized over the years.
