Rebuilding the historic 1875 iron bridge across the Genesee River near Portageville, NY (generally known as the Portage Bridge) is estimated to cost in about $40 million. NS has not announced plans for a new structure. However, it appears likely that should a new new bridge be built, it will be south of the present trestle, crossing the gorge at a higher elevation. That would eliminate a dip and curves in the current approaches to the trestle.
The bridge is on the NS (former EL line from Buffalo to Binghamton via Hornell. It spans the the uppermost of a series of three waterfalls in Letchworth State Park ("The Grand Canyon of the East"). At one time, a PRR branch from Olean to Rochester crossed under the Erie on a ledge located on the east side of the river.
The inn that you refer to is the "Glen Iris Inn", a historic structure with excellent dining and overnight rooms available. In the summer there are also campsites and cottages to rent in the park.
