Alex Huff didn't address it in the linked to post on Trainorders above, but he's written elsewhere that the story of it being bought for a fuel tank stemmed from an offhand comment he made in jest to someone once that got repeated and pretty quick took on a life of its own. It has not basis in reality otherwise.
