I just today spoke with a friend who told me that the Modesto & Empire Traction Co. has ordered gensets and that the first one is in the process of construction right now. Eventual plan is to replace all the 70 tonners and even the newer SW-1500s, despite the fact that these are well liked and have been pretty maintenance free since their arrival on the property.
Apparently there is a cost incentive on this deal, with the gov't. kicking in a large percentage of the cost due to the environmental gains.
