It also says something about those who care little or
nothing about the applicable laws, rules, regulations
etc., as long as THEY get to see THEIR favorite engine
of the moment run, and to hell with all that other
"silly" legal stuff.
I want to see it run. I want to see it run as the
locomotive on the front, NOT behind a diesel. I
EXPECT it to have diesels behind it. So bet it.
It's not like the PTC requirements have snuck up
on UP. It's been well-known for over a decade what
was coming, giving them plenty of time to find
solutions. That they chose not to is a surprise.
That they waited all these years (10 at least) to
do something positive toward compliance, then ended
up in the position of having to ask for an exception
is not something I or most expected, given UP's
history of being ahead of the curve on stuff like
this.
There is no excuse for it. But that said, hopefully
the FRA will (or maybe already has) granted the request.
If not, prepare to be disappointed.
