What realy needs to happen hear is this.#1 The tunnels need lowering and concreted for double stack and autorack clearance.#2 The bridges need strengthening or rebuilding to handle the heavier loads.#3 The tracks and road bed need heavier pound rail curv reconfiguration and reconditioning.#4 New rail line between San Ysidro and San Diego needs to be built to the terminals.#5 More capacity at the ports including gantry cranes stradle cranes intermodal yards and switching terminals.#6 The bay needs dredging and new port docks in addition to 10th Avenue and National City Terminals.Where to find land space and the $100s of millions of dollars it will take to do this i don't know.#7 Shortline railroads other than port authority type operations just are not the answer. We need class 1 involvment here like BNSF and or UP as if thats going to happen. With the new shortlines railroads comming on board.I think we are just completly going in the wrong direction.#8 We need to get down on our San Diego port authorities throut on this one.In other words to our port authority.Start opening the pocket book and lets get it done because at least some of the money is there.Other than that you might as well just forget it.We may not be a port like Los Angtles or Long Beach.#9 The goal here is to create good high paying jobs.
