I had a CCP/CWP for San Luis Obispo County and Siskiyou County. Reason being, in SF County you don't get a permit. Period. But, if you have one from another county, they usually let it slide. I worked the Quint St. switcher one night and I was sitting in the street when some drunk pulled up to the engine in his car. This guy starting breaking windows on the engine and your crew are 50 cars away out at the docks, you need something. Never had a problem until the glass house lowered a rule in the 80s, saying ....no weapons on company property...!
I think they should have offered him that first free step outside the fireman's cab door. My guess is he needed a bath.
But I remember pulling down the pass at Surf going west when all of a sudden, a bunch of gun shots.
There was the head man with two 6 guns standing on the front platform just going at it. It was "Hate Week" and we got people from all over. Well this guy was out of El Paso and was a switchman. He had never been out of the yard.
