The whole scam was always a giant political "bait and switch", including what was presented to the voters, since there was never any credible "plan" by the incompetent mismanaged CHSRA to actually implement any of the requirements of Proposition 1A.
And worse, there has never been any transportation "need" for the project and "cost is no object" performance, in the LA-SFO market, that voters were "baited" with.
There is simply no deficiency in more cost effective, competitive, and faster air service between the greater LAX-greater SFO air passenger market.
There is a huge auto time/cost competitive travel market for cheap, fast, frequent, and reliable rail passenger service, from our many, overlapping, medium sized travel markets in the Valley, or in the LA-coastal and inland city pairs.
The voters were lied to, by scam artist's to build a "cost is no object" "runaway money train", that we didn't actually need, and couldn't actually afford, at the expense of our not funding projects that actually meet real and pressing transportation "needs", where there is real congestion, and folks actually use trains.
Now, Newsom has had the political "balls" to call it like it is, and said enough is enough, and that is just awful? Why? So, now we get to hear from folks, bleating their typical line of gainsay, that all of a sudden, not continuing to piss scarce taxpayer dollars down this well is somehow a terrible thing...why?
Imagine folks actually being able to admit that we've been wrong about something, folks who are able to come to their senses, look at the evidence, and reverse something really stupid that they've done?
Spending cap and trade funds, which are supposedly to be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, is also "bait and switch" since the CHSRA fiasco would be among the most expensive and least effective CO2 emission reductions you could buy for the dollar spent....
