Since most workers in a museum/club/restoration situation are unpaid volunteers, it is paramount to maintain good relations with the workers AND ensure that they understand the chain of command. This must be made clear to any new members when they join. Otherwise, you will end up with multiple managers and very few workers. This invariably leads to defections and schisms. The downfall of many restorations attempts, from local organizations right on up to the Union Pacific Railroad (where workers may be paid, but are none-the-less still volunteers) can be traced to 'disagreements' among workers. They must constantly be reminded that the goal is restoration, NOT self-aggrandizement. If railfans wanted to be team players instead of IN CHARGE OF EVERYTHING, there might be more museums and restoration projects out there that succeed, instead of a bunch of moping and complaining railfans sitting in the own basements watching videos or their own model set-up.
