> The irony is GE Transportation was acquired by Wabtec, a descedant of Westinghouse, which used to be one of GE's largest competitors in the electric business...

The GE competitor you mention was the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company. As a result of the panic of 1907, the Westinghouse companies were split up, with any and all ties, tenuous as they may have been, between WEMCo and the Westinghouse Air Brake Company became severed. WABCO is now WABTEC, and WEMCo was dissolved during the mid 1990s. Seimens bought the electrical division and British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. bought the nuclear reactor division. CBS Corp holds the licensing rights to the WEMCo name and service marks. Toshiba bought BNFL's interests in 2006 and sold out to Brookfield Business Partners in 2018 after the operation declared bankruptcy in 2017 (according to wikipeida).

Anyone for more corporate chess?
