I wonder if the train had just been turned and the crew hadn't yet changed the train indicator before departing Dallas.

With the demise of Willamette Industries and the long standing mill in Dallas, a good amount of the old trackage has been ripped up in recent years. There is still remnants of all four routes out of Dallas (the original Oregonian Railway narrow gauge line north to Perrydale and south to Airlie, and the Salem, Falls City & Western line west to Falls City and east to Salem), but it would not surprise me if the SFC&W trackage west and the Oregonian Railway trackage southeast will be ripped up in the very near future. That would leave just a few hundred feet of the Oregonian Railway trackage between Main Street and Ash Street...and the rest being the SFC&W trackage east to Gerlinger and the current connection to the P&W's Westside Line.
