Light rail drivers, like train engineers, can't dodge things. Just drop all the anchors and watch. I've been on a few that made contact, more that didn't, but after an emergency stop the whole train has to be inspected for people who might have gotten knocked down or out of their seat, and reports taken. And if contact was made, wait for a new driver (which can sometimes take more than an hour during the evening rush; there aren't many just sitting around waiting for a call). And I'm pretty sure there's a pee test if there's pedestrian contact or other major damage - it's really a bus company, after all, even if a couple of lines are on rails.
