C887Va-K9 modem router. It is being hopefully connected to Sonic.net via a static ip address. Sonic does not use PPP but what they call atm DHCP. As far as I can tell this means LLC/SNAP with RFC 1483 IRB bridging. At least that is what I am trying to configure. There is a step by step guide from Cisco but it wants to put the static IP address and other related DHCP files on ethernet0. Unfortunately in this particular device what happens is that ethernet0 is shutdown when the POTS terminal is connected to an ADSL2+ source.
So I have tried the other interfaces with no internet connectivity. I get some low level of network connection with Sonic but no internet. I think there may be some interoperability issue with the Sonic DSLAM but they are close mouthed. Security I guess. Roughly the DSLAM needs to be Alcatel friendly.
I did not pay much for the usually expensive device so it is ok it if does not pan out. I am learning stuff I did not know.
