According to Diebert & Strapac the 4367 was dismantled at Eugene on 19 April 1961. Previous postees have not mentioned the 3 Consolidations that were kept for emergency use and were in serviceable condition even though carried on the roster as vacated. These were 2582 at Roseville, 2827 at Bakersfield and 2836 at Bayshore. 2582 and 2836 served as stationary boilers at a tomato processing plant in Salinas in the fall of 1959, among other duties.
2582 was vacated on 02 May 1961 and was dismantled by the Purdy Co. at their Ewing facility north of Lincoln, Calif. I have been told that this happened "several weeks" after she left Roseville but have no way of verifying this.
2827 was dismantled at Bakersfield on 13 May 1961.
2836 was dismantled at So. San Francisco on 05 May 1961.
Thus it would appear that the final steam locomotive to be disposed of by the S.P. to be dismantled would be either the 2582 or the 2827.
As has been mentioned at least 2 locomotives which had been on display have also been dismantled, many years after they were donated by the S.P. Hopefully the above information will be of interest. Cheers,
