How to reroute VTA through San Jose

As I was reading the posts about the slow running of VTA light rail through San Jose it got me thinking about how it could be rerouted for faster running by by-passing the downtown. I'm not a professional transit planner so this is just a fun "what-if".

I would start by redoing the interchange at Hwy 87 and Auzerais so that the track goes to the west of 87 by Delmas ave through the Diamond Laundry building site hooking back into the existing tracks. Reroute the tracks to make them parallel to Delmas bridging across Los Gatos Creek then go along the west side of the Guadalupe river to the airport (service to the airport). From there go north across 101 and go back to the existing ROW on 1st Street by going down the center of Component drive or by paralleling Atmel Way.

Once again, I'm not a professional but it's interesting to look at a map and think about a possible better routing that would get more people to use the system.
