Yesterday afternoon after we had returned to Durango with the regular Cascade Turn train behind # 476, I heard a steam whistle. Sure enough it was the work train we saw at Rockwood on the return leg. From my hotel room I saw D&S locomotive 482, some hopper cars, SP 18, and a caboose returning to Durango.

I doubt SP 18 is kaput for good. There's another special excursion scheduled for May (19?). Talk was already underway the day of the mishap on how to return it to operation.

Good luck to the shop crew! D&S staff seem very competent.
